The American Contact Dermatitis Society (ACDS) serves to promote, support, develop and stimulate information about contact dermatitis and occupational skin disease. Each year, ACDS publishes an “Allergen of the Year.” In 2006, the allergen was p-phenylenediamine (PPD)—a chemical substance widely used as a permanent hair dyes although also commonly found in fur dyes, temporary tattoos, photographic developer, black rubber, oils, greases, gasoline, and photocopying and printing inks. EcoColors Hair Color products contain no PPD.
