Study shows hair loss associated with monoethanolamines found in many hair colorants

An investigation of dermatitis and subsequent hair loss revealed that hair colorants containing monoethanolamines (MEAs) with hyrdrogen peroxide, induce oxidative stress and cell toxicity in human hair. This study compared ammonia-based colorants to colorants with non ammonia alternatives called monoethanolamines (MEA). The results affirmed that using the non ammonia colorants can cause hair loss over time with repeated exposure and that minimal quantities of ammonia in hair colorants are considered not-toxic. EcoColors Hair Color contains no ethanolamines or derivatives.
